What families say about Dallas communities

Assisted Living

BEWARE of this facility! Windsor sent my mother to the hospital where she was found to be malnourished. She died 3 days later. Windsor then refused to release my mother's records to the family. After getting an attorney, Windsor claimed they were not a medical facility and therefore weren't required to keep records. Put your loved ones here at your own risk!! BEWARE of this facility and staff members Bennie (Director) and Wendi (nursing supervisor).

Assisted Living

My relative stayed at Signature Pointe on both sides and received the best care. After being admitted to the hospital, he went there and was able to get better. He then moved to the retirement area and loved it. He loved Blair and the therapy staff when his health began to decline. Chrissy, the social worker, was wonderful from the beginning. She was there for us at the end. We would recommend this place to anyone and we appreciate all that the staff did for us.

Assisted Living

This place is amazing. Staff truly care about residents, and make you and your loved ones feel like family. It is a blessing to have a home that feels like a family, rather than the larger facilities. Avendelle offers the best care possible.

Assisted Living

My father is a resident at Truewood by Merril. Although he was hesitant about moving into assisted living, Truewood by Merril has been a great help. My dad is treated with kindness and compassion by the staff. The rooms are spacious and clean. My dad has enjoyed the sense of community and has been able to make new friends with staff and residents. While COVID was difficult for all residents (not just Truewood), staff members have worked hard to make sure that everyone is safe and comfortable. My father enjoys the delicious food prepared by the staff, the bingo games with other residents, as well as other events held at the facility. The residents love the holiday games and other activities they organize throughout the year. Visitors are required to sign in and out of the facility when they visit. This is to ensure safety. I would recommend Truewood by Merril to anyone and thank the staff for taking care of my father.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the criteria for Assisted Living in Dallas?

Texas-licensed Assisted Living communities serve seniors who need daily help with activities like bathing, dressing, medications, or meals but who don't require continuous skilled nursing. Dallas communities complete a health and needs assessment before move-in to confirm they can provide the right level of care under state licensing rules.

Does Medicare pay for Assisted Living?

No. Medicare doesn't cover room, board, or daily-living help in Assisted Living communities. Dallas residents can still use Medicare benefits for approved medical care they receive while living in a community — doctor visits, eligible therapies, and short-term hospital stays.

How much does Assisted Living cost per month in Dallas, TX?

Rates for assisted living in Dallas vary by community, suite size and care level. A BoomersHub advisor can confirm current pricing at specific communities, free.

Does long-term care insurance cover Assisted Living?

Most LTCI policies pay toward Assisted Living once benefit triggers are met — typically needing help with two or more daily activities, or having a cognitive impairment. Check your policy's elimination period, daily benefit amount, and lifetime maximum before comparing Dallas communities.

Are Assisted Living expenses tax deductible?

The portion of Assisted Living fees attributable to medical care may qualify as an itemized medical expense when a licensed practitioner has certified the resident as chronically ill and care follows a written plan. Keep itemized statements from your Dallas community and confirm with a tax professional.

Do you bring your own furniture to Assisted Living?

Usually, yes. Most Dallas Assisted Living communities encourage residents to furnish their suite with their own furniture, photos, and keepsakes so the new home feels familiar from day one. Ask each community what fits the floor plan and what's included.

How do I move a parent with dementia to Assisted Living?

Start with their physician, then tour Dallas communities that offer memory care or dementia-capable staffing. Keep routines and familiar belongings, plan the move for their best time of day, and coordinate the first weeks closely with staff. A local advisor can shortlist secure, well-suited Dallas communities for free.

How does Assisted Living work with Social Security?

Social Security income can be applied toward Assisted Living, but on its own it rarely covers the full monthly cost. Most Dallas families combine it with savings, long-term care insurance, VA benefits, or home equity to bridge the difference.

How do I choose the right Assisted Living community in Dallas?

Tour at least three, ideally around a mealtime, and revisit your favorite unannounced. Check the state license and last inspection date, ask about staffing ratios on nights and weekends, and understand how the community handles medical escalation. A BoomersHub advisor can build the shortlist for free.

Does Texas Medicaid help pay for Assisted Living in Dallas?

In participating communities, yes — coverage rules and program names vary by state. Texas-licensed Assisted Living communities can tell you which state Medicaid benefits they accept and whether they offer subsidized units. Neither Medicaid nor Medicare pays for room and board, so ask each Dallas community about their payment mix before you tour.
